About

An independent service for paper multiple-choice exams.

Print&Scan is an independent exam management service. It has operated for nearly a decade and is dedicated to paper-based multiple-choice examinations in higher education. It sits between academic rigour, technical expertise and instructional consulting, and it works in French and English.

How we work

A managed service, not a software platform

You do not learn or operate any software. You send a Word document of questions and a student list, and you receive a gradebook, an annotated copy for every student and a statistical report. Your institution prints, supervises and scans the papers. Print&Scan handles everything between.

The professor needs no technical knowledge at any stage, and the workflow is the same for a small seminar and for a cohort of 800 or more.

For quality-assurance and accreditation teams, the same process every time, an annotated copy for every student and a statistical report on every exam make assessment documented and repeatable.

Beyond the marks

Consulting on results

A statistical report only helps if it changes what happens next. Print&Scan offers advisory sessions to interpret your results and turn them into concrete strategies for revising your questions: which questions to rewrite, which wrong answers to replace, and which questions may point to an error in the answer key.

This is what sets the service apart. It bridges the gap between statistical output and practical teaching improvement, so each exam helps you write a better one next time.

To arrange a session, contact us. The measures in the report are explained in plain terms on the services page.

The case for paper

Why paper, for large cohorts and high stakes

Integrity

Online multiple-choice exams make it hard to enforce true closed-book, supervised conditions. Students can share screens, use a second device or collude in real time. A supervised paper exam removes those routes, and a unique paper for every student also removes the oldest one: copying from a neighbour.

Access

Not every institution has computer labs large enough for big cohorts. Some groups of students also perform differently on screen than on paper. A paper exam needs no computer lab.

Nothing to fail during the exam

Nothing in the exam room depends on a network or a device, so there is nothing that can fail halfway through.

What paper costs

Paper exams have a price. Your institution prints and scans, and results arrive within 24–48 hours of receiving the scans, not instantly as they do online. Traditional paper exams also carry their own weaknesses: everyone in a row holds the same paper, marking by hand is slow and error-prone, professors get totals without insight into which questions worked, and an error in the answer key can go unnoticed and quietly corrupt results at scale. Print&Scan keeps the supervised, familiar format and removes those weaknesses.
